In this role, you will be a vital part of our service, ensuring timely and safe collection of solid waste and recyclables on assigned routes. Location: Grand Island, NE
Employment Type: Full Time
Hours: This position is Monday-Friday, with some Saturdays as needed. 40-55 hour work week depending on season and other factors.
Starting Wage: Based on Experience
Key Responsibilities
As a CDL Driver, you will:
- Operate Safely: Expertly and safely operate a garbage truck along specified routes for solid waste and recycling collection.
- Route Management: Accurately read and follow route sheets, ensuring all customers identified are serviced efficiently, or as directed by the dispatcher.
- Vehicle Care: Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, including checking fluids, safety equipment, and tires, to ensure optimal operational readiness.
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations and company safety guidelines. Your safety, and the safety of others, is our top priority.
- Physical Engagement: Perform physically demanding tasks, including loading and unloading materials, often independently.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- This role involves significant physical activity. You will be exposed to outside weather conditions, including frequent wet and/or humid environments, as well as fumes and vehicle vibration. The work environment includes moving mechanical parts, requiring strict adherence to basic safety precautions. The noise level is typically moderate.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects weighing over 50 pounds.
- Requires extensive physical activity throughout the workday.
Skills
- Vehicle Knowledge: Basic understanding of truck components to effectively complete pre- and post-trip inspections.
- Customer Service: Ability to interact courteously and professionally with customers when direct contact is required.
- Safety Mindset: A strong commitment to safety protocols and procedures.
Qualifications
- Valid CDL: Must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with an air brakes endorsement.
- Clean Record: A good driving record is essential.<
- Physical Capability: Demonstrated ability to perform the physically demanding aspects of the job.
Education and Experience
- Education: No specific educational requirements.
- Experience: Previous waste collection experience is beneficial, but not required. We are willing to train the right candidate!
